Check Point

We left Hong Kong this morning and we are now sat on a Sydney bound flight with Qantas. This is our third flight in 9 days after some short stays in Japan and Hong Kong. 

Arriving at the station, our taxi driver dropped us off and put our suitcases on a trolley for us.  We stood confused for a moment as he drove off, wondering why the train station had airport trolleys and what the point of putting our cases on them was when we were about to get on a train, which of course, you couldn’t take a trolley onto.

And so begins the year of the Ox

Chinese New Year would have slipped by unnoticed today if it hadn’t been for an email from an ex-colleague of mine who moved to the UK from north China a few years ago. I loved her email detailing her family’s celebration for the Year of the Ox. Apparently the year of the Ox is an ‘earth’ year, when people will take a breather and reflect on what they should do in the coming year.

Actors and Insights

This afternoon I happened to listen to an interview with American actor Will Smith, who is promoting his new film Seven Pounds. The conversation turned to his movie Ali, about Mohammad Ali’s life. Will Smith shared something very profound which immediately made me think about our use of Insights at Ignite.

Will Smith was talking about a scene shot in Mocambique: “four days or so before we shot that scene I’d just met Nelson Mandela and I realised the power of story. And what my job was as an actor in bringing stories to the screen is to illuminate a truth about life.
